Lightning Dismissal Protocol

When lightning is less that 10 miles away, Gulf Middle School enacts it’s “Inclement Weather Dismissal” procedures.  Ultimately, this procedure states that no student may be outside without being under cover until the lightning is 10 miles or greater from the school.  There are no exceptions to this policy.  Below are some bullet points you need to know as a parent:

  1. If your child is a walker or biker rider, they will be held inside the school until the lightning is at an appropriate distance away.  At that time we will issue an “all clear.”
  2. If your child walks to the elementary school, your child will also be held inside the school until “all clear” is issued.
  3. If you decide to pick up your walker or biker from our school, you must come through the parent pick up line.  Please make sure you place your parent pick up number on your dash.
  4. Please remember if you do not typically use the parent pick up line, the line starts on Chiquita, right on Savona, right on SW 18th Ave, and into the GMS parent pick up circle.
  5. If your child is a walker or biker and remains on campus through the duration of the inclement weather, your child will be dismissed at the “all clear” and released out the front gates of the school.
